I really don’t get why everyone keeps saying DC is so bigoted like??

I get the fact that they decided wonder woman wasn’t a feminist and thats just shitty

but on the other hand Harley Quinn had an entire story arc where she kicked this dude’s ass cus he was a major homophobe, and then there was that time there was a trans woman and she and her gang just kind of went idgaf, and she keeps figuring out ways to get people out of abusive relationships like?????

DC made a good choice when they made her they just kind of made shitty choices almost everywhere else

It’s kind of a mixed bag. A lot of people take the current DC printed reluctance to stray from the grimdark module to apply across everything they do. Which isn’t true, but doesn’t excuse the fact that one of their properties is the most recognizable, popular superheroine of all time and they havent given her a movie yet.

And people will credit Marvel with spending 170 million on a Guardians of the Galaxy movie which apparently shows that they’re willing to sink money into a more dangerous project than DC and expand beyond the grimdark. But they haven’t given a solo film to Captain Marvel (who’s currently got a much larger fanbase than Iron Man before his film was greenlit) or Black Widow (who still has yet to be featured on the majority of Avengers merchandise) but they’ve still done nothing to support their female heroes.

Neither of them have done anything to show young girls that comics can be a welcoming medium and in that respect they both need to do better.

I’ve seen this article linked a few times. I finally bought the book the author references — Thomas Kochman’s Black and White Styles in Conflict — and I’m looking forward to reading it.
